Three ways to ride

Choose your time on the trail

The main difference is how much you want to explore—and whether waterfalls are part of your day. All three options are private guided tours.

The interesting places are out of town

The appeal of an ATV tour is getting into the countryside around Jaco: backroads, rural communities, changing landscapes, and viewpoints you are unlikely to find on your own.

Your guide leads the route and arranges access where trails and waterfalls cross private property. Start with a safety and driving briefing, then ride with your own group.

On the longer tours, waterfall stops give you a chance to get off the ATV and explore. Swimming depends on the weather, water levels, and your guide’s assessment that day.

Plan your day

Before you go

A few practical details will help your group arrive ready to ride.

Pickup & start times

Round-trip transportation is included from Jaco, nearby Playa Hermosa, and Los Sueños. Starts are generally available from 8am to 1pm; we’ll confirm your tour and pickup time when booking.

Drivers & passengers

Drivers must be 18+ with a valid driver’s license. Exceptions may be available with advance operator approval—ask before booking. Tell us if you need passenger seating or a side-by-side, including any children’s ages.

The credit-card hold

The operator requires a refundable damage hold on Visa or Mastercard: $500 for groups of 1–4 people or $1,000 for groups of 5 or more. This is separate from the tour price. Bring the card and confirm the hold terms before riding.

What to bring

Closed-toe shoes, comfortable clothes that can get wet or muddy, your driver’s license and credit card, water, sun protection, and insect repellent. Add a swimsuit and towel for waterfall tours, plus money for food, drinks, and optional tips.

Our local advice

Book an adventure, not an ATV rental

For getting around Jaco, an ATV can be hot in the sun, wet in the rain, loud in town, and expensive to repair if damaged. It also offers limited seating for a group. The enjoyable part is exploring off-road with someone who knows where to go and can arrange access.

We offer guided tours only. These are countryside routes, not beach rides. River crossings may be part of an approved route when conditions allow; riding along riverbeds and disturbing wildlife is not part of the experience.

Good questions

Jaco ATV tour FAQs

Wondering which ride fits your group? Start here, then send us the details that matter to you.

Ask us about your ride
Which ATV tour should I choose?

Choose 3 hours for a shorter countryside ride without waterfalls, 4 hours for riding plus Sutton Falls, or 5 hours for the route with Sutton, Coyote, and Jaguar waterfalls. The longer options include a planned El Tigre lookout stop; the 3-hour tour may stop there if time and pace allow.

Do I need previous ATV experience?

You don’t need to be an experienced ATV rider to inquire. The 3-hour option is the most beginner-oriented, and all tours start with a safety and driving briefing. Tell us your group’s experience and any concerns so we can help choose a suitable option.

Is the tour private? Are the waterfalls private too?

Your guided ATV tour is for your group. The waterfall property is privately owned, but that does not mean your group has exclusive use of the waterfalls or swimming areas.

Can two people share an ATV, or use a side-by-side?

Passenger and side-by-side options are available by inquiry. Send your group size, preferred tour, and children’s ages if applicable, and we’ll confirm suitable vehicles, seating, and pricing. The advertised rates are for one driver on a standard ATV.

Can we swim at the waterfalls?

There may be opportunities to swim on the 4 and 5-hour tours when conditions allow. Water levels and weather can affect access, so swimming is not guaranteed. Follow your guide’s instructions and bring a swimsuit and towel.

Are food and drinks included?

Food and drinks are purchased separately. The El Tigre lookout and restaurant is a planned stop on the 4 and 5-hour tours and a possible stop on the 3-hour tour when time allows.

What happens if it rains?

Rain can change trail conditions, waterfall access, and water levels. The operator may adjust the route for the conditions on the day. Ask us about your date and the applicable cancellation or rescheduling terms before booking.

Can I rent an ATV or ride one on Jaco Beach?

JacoVIP offers guided ATV tours, not independent rentals. The tours do not include driving on Jaco Beach. Guided countryside routes provide a more useful way to explore, with local route knowledge and arranged access to private trails and waterfall properties.

Can I combine an ATV ride with ziplining?

Yes. We also offer an ATV and zipline combo tour with a different provider. It has its own route, pricing, and inclusions, so review that tour separately.
